Triple - I project
(2011-12 to 2015-16 )

1. Title of the project

Triple-I (INSPIRE, INCLDUE & INTEGRATE)

2.The context that required the initiation of the practice

Serving the cause of social justice, ensuring equity, and increasing access to higher education are a few ways by which HEIs can contribute to the National development.

Eighty two percent of our state’s high school students opt out of higher studies after classXII.And that all the science, commerce, medical; engineering and arts graduates come from that remaining percentage.

Our govt has set a goal of achieving a target of GER (GROSS ENROLLMENT RATIO) 30% by 2020, Before the 2020 leap, we should take small steps to a better 2015..This is feasible only when “exclusions” (Social, Economic and educational) are eliminated from our reality.

The biggest challenge to this task is to strengthen the school system, which will provide our country the critical mass for higher education. To strengthen this system we should first look at how to ensure that school dropout rates go down and the students coming out of higher secondary schools progress towards higher education.

Contributing to National Development has always been an implicit goal of our Institution.

Our Role

Our focus all along has been on herbal research and taking technology from “Lab to Land”. We have initiated another ambitious project, in parallel, called “inclusion”. Including children of neighboring schools to the arena of higher education. This novel project is named as Triple-I (INSPIRE, INCLDUE & INTEGRATE)

Under this “Triple-I” (Inspire, Include and Integrate) project the college adopted three schools in the vicinity for a period of five years to foster interest in the students to pursue higher education.

Accordingly, an MOU in this regard will be signed between the managements of the college and three schools in the vicinity.

3. Objectives of the Practice

  • To offer students the values of life, ethics and morality.
  • To encourage students to continue their studies with confidence.
  • To help the slow learners take more interest in studies.
  • To reduce the dropout rates.
  • To strengthen the learning capacity of the bright and advanced learners.
  • To inspire the students in Basic Sciences.
  • To advise students on the avenues open to them in Higher Education sector after the completion of studies at school.

4. The Practice

School Adoption :The entire student community of our college is divided into three groups. Each group will adopt one school & work under the supervision of staff advisers.

Establishing Rapport:Staff Advisor fixes appointments with the respective HEADS OF THE SCHOOLS & arranges for rapport (Our students vs school students).

Phase I :: Data base creation:In the Ist phase of the rapport, school students’ data base is created using a formatted biodata form.

Phase II :: Student Assessment:In the IInd phase of the rapport, college students individually assess school students with the guidelines provided in a Student Assessment Schedule. Through this, the staff Advisor elicits information about the student’s need in the areas of academics, personal needs, and finance.

Phase III :: Intervention strategy:Based on the information thus collected, the staff advisor plans an appropriate intervention strategy suitable to the students of various classes. Firstly, the advisor priorities the needs of the student. The problem of immediate concern will be addressed first.

Practice:

  1. Academic Performance
  2. During interventions students are categorized as slow learners, average performers and advanced learners.

These students will be given appropriate guidance to equip themselves for better performance in their examinations.

    • Organize memory boosting programmes

    • Organize book fairs and exhibitions to inculcate the reading habits and inspire them as futures innovators.
    • Equip the students with the knowledge of options available for higher studies (in the stream of Engineering, Medicine, Basic Sciences and Applied Sciences, etc,) and career growth. (This programme will be given by professionals)
  3. Improvement on General Behavior

    • Organize value education classes.
    • Organize awareness programs on Health Care, Social Problems, Road Safety, etc.,

Counseling will be given to the students by trained teachers and professionals. If needed, parents also will undergo counseling.

    • Issues to be addressed by these counseling sessions
